In a statement released on July 19th, Peter Obi expressed gratitude to God for His infinite mercies but reiterated his long-standing decision to abstain from personal birthday celebrations in today's Nigeria. However, he acknowledged the inquiries from his friends, members of the Labour Party, and his loyal supporters on how they could join him in marking the occasion and presenting gifts.

Peter Obi humbly appealed to all those who desired to celebrate his birthday with gifts to consider extending their generosity to people in need, particularly during these challenging times. He also urged them to visit schools in remote areas and provide them with basic amenities. Those willing to contribute further were encouraged to visit various Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps scattered across the country.

In addition, he intended to raise funds for schools and hospitals, highlighting that the responsibility for building a better Nigeria should begin with leaders and those in privileged positions.

Drawing attention to the prevailing issues plaguing the nation, Peter Obi expressed concern over the alarming levels of insecurity, violence, and bloodshed. He highlighted recent incidents, such as the loss of over 200 lives due to sustained violent attacks in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State and over 100 lives lost in Benue State. The politician emphasized the urgent need for change and stated his desire to celebrate his birthday in a New Nigeria—a nation where the lives and properties of citizens are secure, where opportunities are created for the youth, and where all Nigerians can be proud.
