Peter Obi Declines Birthday Celebration, Urges Support for Needy and Advocates for a Better Nigeria

Peter Obi, announced on his 62nd birthday that he would not be celebrating in light of the current deplorable state of the nation. Instead, he called on his friends, supporters, and well-wishers to redirect their generosity towards those in need and to work towards building a better Nigeria.

In a statement released on July 19th, Peter Obi expressed gratitude to God for His infinite mercies but reiterated his long-standing decision to abstain from personal birthday celebrations in today's Nigeria. However, he acknowledged the inquiries from his friends, members of the Labour Party, and his loyal supporters on how they could join him in marking the occasion and presenting gifts.

Peter Obi humbly appealed to all those who desired to celebrate his birthday with gifts to consider extending their generosity to people in need, particularly during these challenging times. He encouraged individuals to visit hospitals, orphanages, homes for the elderly, and institutions supporting people with disabilities, offering them generous gifts and support. He also urged them to visit schools in remote areas and provide them with basic amenities. Those willing to contribute further were encouraged to visit various Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps scattered across the country.

The esteemed politician shared his personal plans, emphasizing that he would dedicate his time and resources to helping the less fortunate in his community. In addition, he intended to raise funds for schools and hospitals, highlighting that the responsibility for building a better Nigeria should begin with leaders and those in privileged positions.

Drawing attention to the prevailing issues plaguing the nation, Peter Obi expressed concern over the alarming levels of insecurity, violence, and bloodshed. He highlighted recent incidents, such as the loss of over 200 lives due to sustained violent attacks in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State and over 100 lives lost in Benue State. The politician emphasized the urgent need for change and stated his desire to celebrate his birthday in a New Nigeria—a nation where the lives and properties of citizens are secure, where opportunities are created for the youth, and where all Nigerians can be proud.

Peter Obi concluded by calling on Nigerians to expand their imagination of what is possible and to believe in the potential for a better Nigeria. He emphasized that the true celebration lies in working towards a prosperous and inclusive nation that benefits all its citizens.

As Peter Obi refrains from personal birthday festivities, his message serves as a reminder to redirect efforts towards humanitarian causes and the pursuit of a more promising future for Nigeria.
